Grades and Content
The Orion’s Mind curriculum comes in pods. Each pod includes curriculum and materials for six hours of tutoring (or three 2-hour sessions).
Pods come in six themed-levels based. Based on a student’s pre-assessment
results, Orion’s Mind can mix and match pods from different levels to
create a program that specifically meets the academic needs of each
student.
| Level | Theme | Description |
| Red Beginning Reading Program |
Fairytales | Each Red Pod teaches phonics (initial consonants and blends), vocabulary, literature, and basic math through songs, games, and creative exercises. All of the activities tie back to famous fairytales of cultural significance. Using the fairytales as a base, the Red Program includes character education and teaches students how to be good democratic citizens. |
Green Beginning Writing Program |
Fairytales | The Green Program is similar to the Red Program except with more challenging phonics (vowel sounds and spellings), reading passages, and a greater emphasis on writing (focus on writing paragraphs.) All learning is still tied into fairytale themes and includes character education, songs, games, and creative exercises. |
| Purple Foundations Program |
Genres | The Purple Program is our largest and most popular program because it teaches the foundations for higher level math and reading. This middle level curriculum teaches each concept from the beginning. This program uses stories, creative problem-solving activities, writing, art, movement, and games to teach important math and reading concepts. |
| Blue Middle School Program |
Mysteries (cities) | Each Blue Pod takes place in different prominent US city. Students are detectives and are asked to solve a crime. They read letters, look for clues, solve team-building exercises, and master the math and reading concepts in order to solve the case. They also learn about the geography and culture of each place their detective agency visits. |
| Orange Middle School Program |
Decades | Each Orange Pod shows the “day in the life” of a middle school student at critical points in history. Students learn about major, American historical events through the eyes of a 13 year old. The math and reading lessons are tied into this time period, as are the creative problem-solving activities. |
| Yellow English as a Second Language (ESL) Program |
Fairytales & Genres |
The Yellow Program is different from our other programs. The focus of this program is to teach a foreign language—English! The beginning lessons teach basic English vocabulary. The intermediate lessons teach the math and reading vocabulary that is likely to show up on standardized tests. Each lesson is tied into a theme and teaches the concepts using songs, games, and creative exercises. |
